Being a mother is the hardest job in the world (2024)

Mother's Day is the best day of the year. We get to honor our mothers whether they are here or in heaven. My mother is in heaven and is looking over me and helping me with life's difficult challenges.

When I lost my husband at a early age, my mother told me I had to be strong for my two children that I had to bring up as a single mom. I was strong and in our family there wasn't anything like welfare. She gave me an apartment, food because she owned a store, and bought me a new car. I had that car until my son and daughter were in high school. She always told me I was her favorite daughter, because when she asked me to do something that none of my other sisters would do, I would do it. We never placed her in a nursing home, and in the end I did for her. I have no regrets in life. She was a good mother and I was a good daughter.

As Michelle Obama stated in an interview, a mother is the hardest job in the world. You give birth to your children, take care of them and see that they have the best life you can give them. She knows. Before she became the First Lady she was a lawyer. She took her girls to school, left work to bring them home and went back to work. Came home, fixed supper, helped with their homework, listened to them and put them to bed. When her husband came home, she spent time with him. That is so true, a mother's job is never finished. I know because I did the same, my son and daughter went to college, one became a music producer and my daughter became a special education teacher. They love what they are doing and they are a credit to society.

Thank God for Social Security. It helped me provide the things I could not buy, like a bike or help them go to college. They were very smart. My son went to Berklee College of Music in Boston and went on the bus each day until the last year. My daughter went to Providence College and got her master's in special education and is cited many times for being an excellent teacher.

So all of you moms, especially if you're a single mom, you can achieve greatness. Remember, where there is a will there is a way. God Bless all mothers here on earth and those who no longer are with us.
