Introduction
Monitoring trends in mortality is central to understanding the health of our population.
This profile provides trends in mortality rates for a wide range of causes of death, allowing outcomes to be easily compared. Data for regions and local authorities allow rates to be compared between geographies.
Rates are provided using three-year rolling averages and single year (where appropriate) time periods, and are presented in topic-related domains such as 'Cancer' and 'Circulatory disease'.
Updated mid-year population estimates
Mortality rates from 2012 onwards have been calculated with population estimates from the Office for National Statistics, which are rebased on results of the 2021 Census. Mortality rates now presented in the profile are not comparable with rates published in earlier versions.
