The Minneapolis North football team is back in the spotlight — and with good reason.

The story of how the Polars, coached largely by law enforcement officers, forged ahead in the wake of the pandemic and George Floyd’s murder is compelling enough to justify two major documentaries, “Boys in Blue,” a four-part Showtime series that premiered in 2023, and “Force of Blue,” which recently became available for on-demand viewing on Prime Video.

Indian survivors of Kashmir attack say gunmen asked if they were Hindus and opened fire

  • By RAJESH ROY - Associated Press

The Associated Press has collected some of the first witness accounts of the massacre in Indian-controlled Kashmir that left 26 people dead. Survivors and loved ones say gunmen asked people whether they were Hindu or Muslim before killing them at close range. Indian authorities have shared few details of last week's attack that mostly killed Hindu tourists. It was one of the deadliest assaults in years targeting civilians in the region claimed by both India and Pakistan. One woman whose husband was killed said the gunman decided not to shoot her. She says the attackers wanted to “leave women behind to mourn.”

Climate change is making coffee more expensive. Tariffs likely will too

  • By MAX CONWAY of Rochester Institute of Technology and CEDAR ATTANASIO of The Associated Press

Premium coffee roasters in the U.S. are reeling from the sharp price increases of coffee beans, which nearly doubled last year after record drought in Brazil. One New York coffee roaster and cafe owner is raising wholesale prices on the coffee she roasts and weighing whether to hike prices at her retail shops. That cafe owner, Reneé Colón, is also trying to cope with the increases by cutting costs elsewhere. She's looking hard at her supply chain, including cultivating her own relationships with growers. And like other small business owners, she's having to adapt to the complexities of President Donald Trump's tariffs.

  • By LINDSEY BAHR - AP Film Writer

“Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker Joseph Kosinski started dreaming up a movie about Formula One racing while watching “Drive to Survive.” But it would take nearly four years for that dream to become “F1,” which is speeding into movie theaters on June 27. The ambitious film stars Brad Pitt as an aging driver recruited to come back for one more race. It was a complex operation that would involve unprecedented coordination with the league, groundbreaking innovation in camera technology, and letting Pitt and his co-star Damson Idris really drive the cars at 180 mph. “F1” speeds into theaters on June 27.

The epicenter of an explosion at an Iranian port is tied to a charity overseen by its supreme leader

  • By JON GAMBRELL - Associated Press

The explosion that rocked an Iranian port had its epicenter at a facility ultimately owned by a charitable foundation overseen by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s office. The blast on Saturday killed at least 70 people and injuring over 1,000 others. The foundation is known as Bonyad Mostazafan. It faces American sanctions over it helping the 86-year-old Khamenei. That's according to the U.S. Treasury. Authorities still haven’t offered a cause for the blast at the Shahid Rajaei port near Bandar Abbas. The port reportedly took in a chemical component needed for solid fuel for ballistic missiles. That it's something denied by authorities though local reports now increasingly point toward a mysterious and highly explosive cargo being delivered there.
