Bachelor Completion Admission Requirements (2024)

Admissions Requirements

GPA: 2.0+

Official transcripts from each institution attended (electronic preferred for U.S. transcripts)

Students must enter with at least 30 credit hours. Students may transfer up to 90 credit hours towards their degree. An advisor will give individual consultations to determine the best way to include previous credit hours.

International students must submit one of the following English language proficiency exams: Duolingo, TOEFL, IELTS, or APTE.

Transfer Students

University of North Texas has a national reputation as a "transfer-friendly" university. While you are required to take at least 30 hours from UNT, you can transfer up to 84-90 qualifying credit hours from community colleges, technical institutions, and/or other universities and apply it toward your B.A.A.S. degree. To learn more about how your credits might transfer, reach out to a Coursera enrollment counselor at UNT-BAAS@coursera.org or read theUNT Transfer Guide.

The B.A.A.S. program at UNT accepts traditional common core credits earned from community colleges (American history, political science, English, etc.) or other universities. But what makes the B.A.A.S program so valuable is the opportunity to also transfer vocational, occupational, technical or workforce credits from courses at community colleges or technical institutions and apply them toward your bachelor’s degree.

Students who complete theGoogle IT Support Professional Certificateon Coursera can receive 12 credit hours toward the information technology concentration of the B.A.A.S. degree. These credits would count as lower division credits (1000, 2000 level courses). If you are considering enrollment in the Google IT Cert with the intent of applying the credits earned towards your UNT B.A.A.S. degree, please check with your advisor before enrolling in the Google IT Cert to make sure that you have the necessary lower division credit allotment available and that the credits would be able to count towards your degree.

Non-Traditional Students

You might be a non-traditional student if:

  • You are 25 or older and are returning to finish your degree;

  • You work full-time and can only take a few courses every semester;

  • You have primary responsibility as a caregiver for children or other family members;

  • You have credits from one or more colleges or universities; or,

  • You have a number of credits from a prior major(s) that you no longer plan to pursue.

The B.A.A.S. degree program is a great option for non-traditional students because it has flexible delivery options. Many non-traditional students return to complete their degree in order to improve promotion opportunities in their current job, transition to a new career, attend graduate school, or for pride of completion. Their primary goal is the most efficient possible route to a degree. The B.A.A.S facilitates this process through its unique ability to consolidate and utilize previously earned credits—whether these are workforce, military, or academic college course credits.

International Students

Here is some important information for international students:

  • The English requirements for international applicants are one of the following: A DuoLingo score of at least 100/160, a TOEFL score of 79 or above, an IELTS score of 6.0 or above, or an APTE score of 53 or above.

  • International students who attend and graduate from high schools overseas are not required to submit SAT/ACT test scores for admission.

  • UNT Admissions does not accept Developmental or English Language classes as credit.

  • International Official Transcripts must be sent to UNT in Native Language and English. The English translation must be certified.

  • The University of North Texas will need a full marksheet with credentials/transcripts, not a consolidated version sent to the UNT Admissions Office.

  • Currently, the UNT Admissions Office does not use an electronic transcript service to receive International Official Transcripts. International Official Transcripts MUST be mailed to UNT Admissions for an admissions decision:

Mailing Address: University of North Texas Office of Undergraduate Admissions 1155 Union Circle #311277 Denton, TX 76203-5017

Physical Address for Courier Services (FedEx, UPS, etc.): University of North Texas Office of Undergraduate Admissions Eagle Student Services Center Room 305 1147 Union Circle Denton, TX 76203

  • The only third party evaluator UNT accepts is World Education Services (WES).

  • International students can be admitted with an unofficial International Transcript emailed to the UNT Admissions Office. However, you must send your official transcripts to UNT to formally register for courses.

  • The International transfer student application fee is $85. Students are responsible for this payment.

  • UNT Admissions will only accept international vocational/technical credit from a university level technical program.

Texas Success Initiative

The Texas Success Initiative, TSI, is a state law that requires all Texas public institutions to determine college readiness in reading, writing and mathematics for all degree-seeking undergraduates, including incoming freshman and transfer students, for both on-campus and online courses. TSI status does not affect your admission to the University of North Texas.

If you are deemed TSI incomplete in reading, writing, and/or mathematics, you will be required to take the TSI Assessment for the area(s) in which you are incomplete before beginning classes. You can prepare by starting with UNT’sCollege Prep Mathnon-credit open course on Coursera.

You will be able to check your TSI status in your myUNT portal once admitted to the university.

Any questions can be directed to BAASCoursera@unt.edu.

Academic Transcript Overview

An academic transcript is a detailed record of your marks or grades that has been generated by your current or former postsecondary institution. This is usually a document, either on paper or online, with a list or table of the individual modules, papers, or courses you have completed with a numerical and/or letter grade. Academic transcripts are also commonly known as: school transcript, academic transcript, college transcript, academic record or semester grade sheets, academic certificate, or mark sheet.

What your UNT Advisor needs to verify with your Academic Transcript

  • Course unit codes (the code the host university gives to a specific academic course)

  • Titles of the courses you have attended at your former or current postsecondary institutions

  • Course duration (if one or more sessions)

  • Local grades obtained

  • Total of cumulative credit units earned

  • Total cumulative GPA earned

Veterans or Active Military

UNT has been named a top Military Friendly School by MilitaryFriendly.com eight years in a row and a Top 10 Military Friendly Tier One Research Institution in the nation. One of the reasons is the B.A.A.S. degree, which is a program uniquely suited for veterans and active-duty military.

During your service, you may have had training which qualifies for college credit. TheAmerican Council on Education(A.C.E.) evaluates military training courses and occupation-based skills, knowledge, and abilities gained from military service. These evaluations are used to determine if the training you received is equivalent to what is taught in some college level courses. These equivalencies are converted into recommendations for awarding college credits.

For active duty military, reserve military, or veterans of the army, navy, marine corps and coast guard their concentration may consist of credit awarded for formal training received in the service. The American Council on Education (A.C.E.) evaluates military training courses and occupation-based skills, knowledge, and abilities gained from military service using the Joint Service Transcript. These evaluations are used to determine if the training you received is equivalent to what is taught in some college level courses.

You can learn more about this and how to get a copy of your Joint Service transcript from theAmerican Council on Education.

Veterans, Reservists and active duty personnel of the United States Air Force have their training and service included in a transcript from theCommunity College of Air Force(CCAF) which is part of the Air University. The Community College of the Air Force is a fully accredited degree-granting institution.

University of North Texas also offers a variety of resources tailored to the needs of veterans and military personnel. Please visitUNT Veteran Servicesto learn more about the GI Bill, military discounts, scholarships, psychological services, and external resources.
